Problem 6.28 - Statically Indeterminate Problems

Problem Statement

A composite circular rod is made from two different plastics. A torque of T = 4 kN-m is applied at the midpoint. The right end is free. What is the maximum stress in either material? Assume length L = 10 cm and the shear modulus of the two materials are G1 = 2 GPa and G2 = 1 GPa.

A composite circular rod is made from two different plastics. A torque is applied at the midpoint. One end is fixed to the wall. The length of each half of rod is L. The inner material is material 1 and the outer material is material 2. The inner radius is 2 cm and the outer radius is 3 cm.
