Problem 9.4 - Bending Stress

Problem Statement

A beam with a hollow circular cross-section of outer radius ro = 5.5 in. and inner radius ri = 5 in. is subjected to a distributed load as shown. If w = 100 lb/ft, L1 = 5 ft, and L2 = 10 ft, determine the magnitude of the maximum bending stress in the beam.

A beam of length 2L1+L2 with a circular ring cross section is subjected to a distributed load w. The left end of the beam has a pin a distance of L1 from the start of the distributed load. The distributed load occurs over a length of L2. The right end of the beam has a pin a distance of L1 from the end of the distributed load. The beam's cross section is a ring with outer diameter ro and inner diameter ri.
