Problem 9.2 - Bending Stress

Problem Statement

A beam has the cross-section shown, where b1 = 10 mm, b2 = 30 mm, h1 = 20 mm, and h2 = 10 mm. The beam is subjected to a concentrated load F = 2 kN at its midpoint. If length L = 2 m, determine the magnitude of the maximum bending stress in the beam.

A rectangular beam with a rectangular cutout of length 2L stretches from Point A to Point B. A force F is applied at L/2 from A. The beam cross section has a width of 2b1+b2 and a height of 2h1+h2. The cutout has a width of b2 and a height of h1.
